REGULAR RULES / OBSCUR TV
in collaboration with 5C (la cinquième couche)
This will be a gatefold vinyl album accompanied by a hefty 420-page perfect-bound compendium.
This is a dense sequence of screen captures culled from obscure documentaries worldwide. The book functions both as a visual archive and an autonomous artwork, its weight and format echoing the album's sonic intensity. Together, they form a hybrid object defying categorization—part record, part visual atlas, part cultural détournement.
Obscur TV's visual material is sourced from a wide selection of predominantly low-resolution television broadcasts and out-of-print VHS compilations like Forbidden Transmission. Often circulated through underground tape networks or late-night programming in the 1980s and 90s, these compilations offered fragmented glimpses into fringe science, Cold War paranoia, esoteric rituals, failed utopias, industrial accidents, and anomalous sequences devoid of context or source. Blending speculative pseudoscience with real socio-political imagery, they compose a strange historical residue—images oscillating between the banal and the unsettling. The content frequently includes declassified military experiments, obsolete educational films, surveillance footage, failed ethnographies, and conspiratorial narratives presented with amateur earnestness. By recontextualizing these captures in a page-by-page format, the book treats them as cultural artifacts—visual documents mapping a forgotten history of media strangeness.
The recorded music mirrors this fragmented instability: improvised structures intersect with electronic noise, fractured rhythms, and abrupt shifts in tone, evoking the disorientation of found footage. Just as the images reveal the seams of forgotten narratives, the sound exposes the raw mechanics of composition, making distortion, silence, and rupture expressive tools. Together, they forge a dialogue between sonic and visual entropy—parallel archives of collapse, resistance, and unresolved meaning.
